Africa Safari Karatu is a luxury safari lodge on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, opening in July 2023. The area is known for its cool climate, green hills and stunning views, once loved by settlers and farmers for coffee bean plantations. The lodge sits atop a hill and offers panoramic views of the Northern Highlands, Lake Eyasi and surroundings.

From Africa Safari Karatu, Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater are easily accessible. The lodge has Safari Comfort Bungalows and Safari Luxury Bungalows, with the Luxury Bungalows offering extra space and a comfortable sofa in the sitting area. All bungalows have private balconies with stunning 180-degree views. The restaurant, bar and swimming pool add to the feeling of home, while the stunning views of the Northern Highlands and Lake Eyasi provide the ideal relaxation before or after your safari.

Balcony with 180 degree view

Africa Safari Karatu offers two room types and safari tents atop the hillside. The bungalows have large balconies that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Both bungalow types exude rustic charm, with traditional African décor and earth tones that blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Are you looking more for back to basics and simplicity? Then opt for the cozy safari tent.

Safari luxury bungalow (max. 4 persons)

Thanks to the brick walls, the Safari Luxury Bungalows have a distinctive look and raw charm. The rooms are furnished with one double and one single bed, with two double beds available upon request. There is a sitting area with a Chesterfield sofa, a bathroom with sink, bathtub, shower and toilet. The Safari Luxury Bungalow is 60 square meters. Each room is nicely decorated with wooden furniture, has a private balcony of 10 square meters and offers a 180 degree view on the left side Lake Eyasi and on the right side the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Safari comfort bungalow (max. 3 persons)

The Safari Comfort Bungalows have a distinctive look and raw charm due to the brick walls. The rooms are furnished with a double bed or twin beds, with an additional single bed placed in the room upon request. There is a sitting area, a bathroom with sink, shower and toilet. The Safari Comfort Bungalow is 50 square meters. Each room is nicely decorated with wooden furniture and has a private 10 square meter balcony that offers a 180-degree view with Lake Eyasi on the left and the Ngorongoro Highlands on the right.

Safari tent (max. 2 persons) – NOT AVAILABLE yet

Looking for more adventure and the real camping feeling? Then choose the safari tent. This small but sturdy tent consists of two single beds. Very comfortable and nicely made up. Outside you have a small sitting area, which is perfect for admiring the beautiful view. The safari tents have a shared toilet and hot shower facilities.

The restaurant and bar at Africa Safari Karatu are located at the top of the hill and offer a dining experience like no other. The grandiose views allow you to enjoy the ultimate in delicious worldly cuisine while overlooking the Ngorongoro highlands and shimmering Lake Eyasi. The restaurant’s menu is diverse and offers you an array of delectable dishes made from fresh, local ingredients.

Our hospitable and local colleagues work with passion and are eager to share African culture and traditions. As the sun sets on the horizon, the restaurant & bar comes alive and you can enjoy good food, delicious drinks and cozy evenings, before crawling into bed.

Swimmingpool

Africa Safari Karatu has a lovely swimming pool at the edge of the hill. It offers an oasis of tranquility where you can relax and enjoy the African sun during your safari tour. Surrounded by comfortable sun beds, the pool invites you to sit back and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

During the day, the pool offers a refreshing respite from safari adventures, allowing you to cool off and recover. As the sun sets, the pool transforms into an enchanting place for stargazing, with the vast night sky above. Relax under the stars and enjoy all the memories you’ve experienced so far on your trip.
