Kuza Cave & SeaWeed Farm
Local women harvesting seaweed
Kuza Cave – an ancient limestone jungle cave with crystal clear turquoise fresh water. Swim in the healing waters, view artifacts from the cave and a timeline of Swahili history dating back to the beginning of our story as people from East Africa. Kibigija Village is the traditional owner of the cave and they invite you to visit if you respect the cave as a sacred place.
During this tour, you will also visit the Seaweed Centre to learn more about seaweed farming, the second largest industry on the island. This social enterprise in Paje creates opportunities for women seaweed farmers to improve their healthy living standards and engage in economic development activities that benefit the entire community. You will see how the women harvest their seaweed and understand how hard the seaweed farmers work in their daily lives. Then you will get a look at the processing center and factory in the village. Here you will have the rare opportunity to see how the seaweed is processed into beauty products such as organic soap and essential oils.
