Zanzibar has traditionally been known as the “spice island” that exported cloves, vanilla, nutmeg and cardamom around the world. The spices originally came from Asia and South America and flourished in the tropical climate. Today, the plantations are a tribute to the island’s past and although it is no longer the main industry, the Spice Tour is an experience you don’t want to miss!
The guide leads you through the farm, where you can see, touch and smell all the different combinations of spices and tropical fruits. You will learn all the different aspects of each spice and fruit, but wait until you have to try to guess what is what. This experience will leave you with a desire and knowledge of spices you didn’t even know.
