Kenmerken & FAQ
The flight between Zanzibar and Arusha takes about 1.5 hours.
The ideal balance between Tanzania and Zanzibar depends entirely on your personal preferences. The average length of travel in northern Tanzania is between 5 and 10 days. The longer you stay in Tanzania, the more you can see of the various national parks and wildlife. You can then extend your vacation with a few days of Zanzibar. This can of course be as long as you like, but often we see guests staying on Zanzibar for about 3 to 8 days.
Yes, domestic flights and cab rides to the airport are fully taken care of by us and are included in our prices as standard.
You go on a private trip, alone or with your travel company. So you will not travel in a group. Our experienced and knowledgeable driver, who is also your guide, will proudly show you Tanzania.

A good start to the vacation.
Day 2 | Your first game drive in Tarangire National Park
Binoculars and photo camera at hand? Today you're going on your first game drive. After a road trip from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, your safari really begins. This national park is known for its large herds of elephants that like to roam throughout the area. To the river where they seek coolness and drink water along with many other species. A beautiful sight. With a satisfied feeling you drive on to Africa Safari Rift Valley, where you will spend your second night.
Day 3 | Tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara National Park
Today Lake Manyara National Park is on the schedule. From your accommodation, you will soon enter the area and hopefully be welcomed by one of the many species of animals that live here. Curious monkeys, grazing buffalo and tree-climbing lions. You can go and discover it all with your own eyes. Once you arrive at Lake Manyara, take a moment to stretch your legs. Walk on the jetty and see if you can spot some lazy hippos. You could stay here for hours, but we have to continue on to Karatu. On top of the hill in Karatu is our next accommodation. Once you've checked in, you can enjoy 180-degree views and the last rays of the sun on your balcony.
Day 4 | Visit the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world! The Ngorongoro Crater
Get up early because the freshly baked bread is already waiting for you. After a delicious breakfast, get back into the safari jeep and travel to Ngorongoro Crater. Unesco World Heritage Site and a highlight of Tanzania that you absolutely must not miss. This intact volcanic caldera is the largest in the world and the habitat of the Big Five! Your private driver will show you around the entire crater while looking for all the wildlife. He will also take you at the end of the day to your next accommodation, Africa Safari South Serengeti. Experience the feeling of a real bush camp, surrounded by wildlife.
Day 5 | Game drive in the Lake Ndutu area
Rustling and crackling. Whistling birds and chirping crickets. These are the sounds you wake up to today. Get out of bed, open the zipper of your tent and be greeted by the pristine nature in front of you. With a little luck, you might just see a zebra, elephant or gazelle pass by your tent. After a good breakfast and a nice cup of coffee or tea, it is time for another game drive. This time close to the accommodation, as Lake Ndutu is just around the corner. This region is rich in many wildlife species. In the first months of the year, the calf season of the great migration takes place here. More than 1.5 million wildebeest migrate in a huge loop through the Serengeti every year. A true spectacle! In the other months, chances are you'll encounter giraffe, eland, elephant and hopefully some species of the six big cats that reside here. At the end of the day you will return to Africa Safari South Serengeti for a delicious dinner and a good night's sleep.
Day 6 | Savannahs and vast plains
After a long wait, today you will enter Serengeti National Park. Africa's most famous national park. With the vast plains and an abundance of wildlife stretching as far as the eye can see. Serengeti is every safari lover's dream. The landscape is constantly changing and you have to stay focused for anything you might encounter along the way. Many felines hunting for prey or a family of wild boar running through the grassy plains. Tonight you will spend the night at Africa Safari Serengeti Ikoma. A comfortable tent with a front yard full of wildlife, thanks to the adjacent Grumeti River.
Day 7 | Another safari day in the famous Serengeti National Park!
Serengeti National Park is very large and not one day is the same here. The area is permanently inhabited by many animals. Therefore, you are most likely to see the lion, leopard and cheetah here. The elephant, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, buffalo and impala are also popular residents of this lively wildlife area. The driver-guide will take you on an exploration of the central Serengeti region, following the movements of the native wildlife throughout the day. Along the way you will stop for a picnic lunch. You'll reach Africa Safari Serengeti Ikoma again as the sun begins to set. In time for a refreshing drink before dinner.
Day 8 | Swap pristine nature for tropical white beaches
After a good night's sleep, today is your last game drive in Serengeti National Park. It ends at the end of the morning at Seronera Airstrip, before your flight to Zanzibar airport. Enjoy the stunning views as you fly over Serengeti National Park and admire the changing landscape of the Great Rift Valley. You may even see a glimpse of the famous Kilimanjaro, as the plane stops briefly in Arusha. You'll land at Zanzibar airport, where you'll be met by our driver and transferred to the Resort. Here you will check in and spend the next few days at leisure enjoying all the facilities the resort has to offer. Spa, massage, sunbathing by the pool or a dip in the ocean. The more adventurous traveler can go scuba diving or take one of the many day trips.
9 & 10 | Cooling sea breezes on Zanzibar
The next two days are all about relaxing and exploring. Whether you stay at the resort and read a book by the pool. Or just actively exploring the island. All that matters is that you enjoy this tropical island and all it has to offer. Go diving or snorkeling to see the underwater world and taste the different spices that Zanzibar is famous for. At the resort, all meals are carefully and lovingly prepared. Taste the different cuisines and be surprised during the Swahili evening. After an impressive Maasai show, you can go back to sleep. La la salama (Good night)
Day 11 | Returning home with many memories
Depending on your return flight, you can enjoy today at the resort. A last breakfast in the beautifully decorated restaurant and one more cocktail before departure at the Jetty bar. Even if you have already checked out, you can always take a refreshing dip and freshen up before being taken to Zanzibar airport. Unfortunately, the trip is already over, but you will board the plane with precious memories.

Lake Ndutu
The heart of the calf season
The southeastern part of the Serengeti, the Ndutu area, is rich in wildlife year-round. Numbers peak between December and April. Huge herds of wildebeest and zebra, from the Great Migration, are attracted by the fresh grass and seasonal rains. During this period, this area is the best place to view game on the plains around Lake Ndutu, where the herds of wildebeest are concentrated.
Most calves are born in January and February, about 8,000 a day. The short grassy plains offer them some safety, as predators can be spotted more easily. But as it goes in nature, these young wildebeest attract many hungry predators, such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas. Other species, such as gazelles and zebras, also give birth in this area and use the wildebeest calves as cover to divert attention from their own young. The area is also suitable for birdwatchers. The Thorny Tree forests are the habitat of even more birds, and if you pay close attention, you might see the fantastically colored Fischer’s Lovebird.

Serengeti National Park
From vast plains to rocky ‘kopjes’
With vast open plains stretching to the horizon and an abundance of wildlife, Serengeti National Park crowns itself a true paradise for any safari enthusiast. Hence, we recommend that you set aside several days for this.
Serengeti National Park covers an impressive area of nearly 15,000 square kilometers and is rightly the largest and perhaps most popular national park in Tanzania’s northern circuit and perhaps in all of Africa.
The Serengeti is known worldwide as host to the Great Migration and many big cats such as lions, cheetahs and cheetahs. However, elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo and impala are also common residents here. This area is extremely popular because of the high probability of witnessing a hunting party of these predators. The landscape in northern Serengeti NP is characterized by “kopjes,” rocky granite formations that are more than 550 million years old and often serve as lookouts for these feline hunters during their search for prey.
Wildlife you can spot:
Wildebeests | Zebras | Thomson’s gazelles | Lions | Cheetahs | Cheetahs | Cheetahs | Cheetahs | Elephants | Giraffes | Hippos | Crocodiles | Buffalo | Impalas | Hyenas | Rhinos | Warthogs | Waterbucks | Vultures | Baboons | Mongoose | Aardvarks | Serval Cats | Meerkats
The Great Trek of the Serengeti National Park
This is a natural spectacle that many people like to see during their safari trip in Tanzania. One of the highlights in Serengeti NP, but also one of the most difficult to spot. Every year, the six million wildebeest, and thousands of zebras and gazelles migrate through Serengeti National Park in search of fresh grass and water.
Seasonally, we know approximately where the Great Migration is located, but never exactly. This is due to many natural factors, which makes seeing the Great Migration very unique. Our drivers/guides always do their best to locate the Great Migration.
- January/February | Calf season in Southern Serengeti / Ndutu area
- March/April | From south to central Serengeti NP via the west side
- June/July | From central to north Serengeti NP
- August to October | The river crossing in Northern Serengeti NP
- November/December | From north to south Serengeti NP via the east side
Practical information
Location: Serengeti National Park is located in northern Tanzania and extends into southwestern Kenya. It is one of the most famous game reserves in Africa.
Entrance fee: The entrance fee may vary depending on your age and period of your visit. This entrance fee (park fee) is always included in our tours.
Best time to visit: The Serengeti is known for the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, culminating in the river crossing (North) in August/September and the calf season (South) in January/February. This is an excellent time to visit the park. However, Serengeti National Park is beautiful all year round and very good for wildlife spotting.
Climate: The climate in the Serengeti can vary, but it is generally warm during the day and cool at night.
