Maasai Boma Tour – Mto wa Mbu
A rich culture with many traditions
The Maasai are great warriors; they always carry a “rungu” (wooden throwing club) and a “seme” (small sword). The traditional clothing for a man consists of red or purple fabric and their long braids are covered with animal fat, which gives the hair an ochre red color. The Maasai are nomads and live in temporary huts called manyattas and raise livestock such as goats and cows.
The Maasai have a rich culture with many traditions, such as when a teenager becomes a moran (young warrior). To prove themselves, they must show the elders (eunoto) that they can become a warrior who can protect the clan and take care of livestock.
If you visit the Maasai, you will learn the Adumu dance (very high jumps with outstretched legs). They will teach you about their jewelry and the status it has within their culture and invite you into their hut (manyattas).
