Mangapwani Caves are natural caves and are located 20 km north of Stone Town, within walking distance of Mangapwani Beach. The first large, damp cave contains a freshwater pool, while the slave cave, further north, was reportedly used as an illegal shelter for slaves after the slave trade was abolished in the late 19th century.
