A safari and stay in Tanzania is completely safe. All our drivers and guides are experts in this field and have undergone extensive training to properly handle nature and animals. All necessary precautions are also taken at our accommodations to provide you with a safe place to stay.
No, this is unfortunately not possible. Due to the safety of you and the wildlife, it is not allowed to drive around on your own. A specialized guide and driver is therefore always included in our tours.
You can choose this for yourself. We offer at all our resorts bungalows with private bathrooms, good beds and electricity. We also offer budget-proof safari tents at Africa Safari Selous. These are more basic and have a shared bathroom. In addition, our resorts have a swimming pool, restaurant, gym and public area with Wi-Fi.
Yes, there are differences in animals between northern and southern Tanzania, although they largely overlap. Both regions offer impressive wildlife experiences, but the type of landscape, concentration of animals and the way you experience them differ. Here's a clear overview:
- In northern Tanzania, you'll find iconic nature reserves such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Here you will see large herds of wildebeest and zebra during the Great Migration, impressive lion prides, and have the best chance of spotting the rhinoceros, one of the few places in Africa where you can complete the Big Five.
- Southern Tanzania is loved precisely for its tranquility, vast landscapes and adventurous safari style. In parks such as Nyerere and Mikumi you will encounter few other vehicles, but you will see many elephants, hippos and unique species. In particular, the rare wild dog is regularly seen here, something almost unheard of in the north.
Yes, Southern Tanzania is suitable for a first safari, if you like adventure, longer distances and less tourism.
You go on a private trip, alone or with your travel company. So you will not travel in a group. Our experienced and knowledgeable driver, who is also your guide, will proudly show you Tanzania.

Day 1 | Your first day, your first game drive
Early morning departure from your resort to Zanzibar airport and a 30-minute flight to Selous Game Reserve. Here your safari adventure begins immediately. Our driver/guide will give you a warm welcome, after which you will board the open safari jeep for your first game drive. Explore the vast landscapes in search of the many wild animals. Look out for the elusive and fascinating wild dogs, a highlight of this diverse reserve. As the day draws to a close, trek to Africa Safari Selous, where you will spend the night surrounded by the sounds of pristine nature.
Day 2 | Explore the wilderness by boat and on foot
Wake up to the symphony of birds. Gather in the restaurant and treat yourself to a delicious breakfast from the extensive breakfast buffet. Today you will explore the area in a different way. You will take an exciting hike accompanied by the Maasai guide, who will show you the hidden wonders of the flora and fauna of the area. The day ends with an unforgettable boat safari along the meandering Rufiji River. Glide through the waterways and see hippos, crocodiles and an abundance of birds in their natural habitat..
Day 3 | Game drive and a visit to the Beho Beho Hot Springs
The adventure continues today with a second day game drive in Selous Game Reserve/Nyerere National Park. Even more opportunities to witness the incredible wildlife of this game reserve. A herd of elephants passing by or a family of wild boar running away in terror. The drive continues to the Hot Springs in the Beho Beho area. An oasis in the wilderness, wonderful to just watch and enjoy Mother Nature at her best. As the sun sets, return to Africa Safari Selous for another magical overnight stay under the African sky.
Day 4 | Time to head back to Zanzibar
Once you have enjoyed a final breakfast overlooking the wilderness, say goodbye to Selous Game Reserve/Nyerere National Park and re-board your flight back to Zanzibar. Think back to the unforgettable moments and fond memories created during your 3-day safari in Selous Game Reserve/Nyerere National Park.

Selous Game Reserve / Nyerere National Park is one of the largest remaining wilderness areas in Africa. The reserve is crossed by Tanzania’s longest river, the Rufiji River, creating a very dynamic ecosystem. From
Zanzibar you will fly here in about 30 minutes and land safely on the airstrip at Selous G.R. / Nyerere National Park, where a safari jeep with driver will be waiting for you.
Selous G.R. / Nyerere National Park is home to more than 350 species of birds and reptiles, the plant species account for some 2,000 species and there is a wide variety of wildlife, including the African forest elephant, lions, hippos, Cape buffalo, Masai giraffes, zebras and crocodiles and everything in between. It is also one of the most important reserves in Africa for the endangered African wild dog.

The African wild dogs in Selous
The vast Selous Game Reserve provides the perfect habitat for the rare and energetic African wild dog. The largest population in the world lives here. Wild dogs are democratic and social, gathering in packs of 10 individuals and sometimes more. They are opportunistic predators that hunt medium-sized ruminants, such as gazelles. No two wild dogs have the same mark, making it easy to locate individuals. Their remarkably large ears serve not only to hear well, but also to cool the photogenic animal, much like the elephant.

Entrance fee: The entrance fee may vary depending on your age and period of your visit. This entrance fee (Park fee) is always included in our tours.
Best time to visit: The Selous Game Reserve can be visited year-round, but the dry season from June to October is often considered the best time for game drives as animals gather at water sources. During the green season (November and May), the landscape is greener.
Climate: The climate in Selous is tropical, with warm temperatures throughout the year. Provide light clothing and protection from the sun.

Domestic flight
This package includes a domestic flight. This is a fast, convenient and safe way to travel across the vast and diverse landscapes of the country. We work with several local airlines and even fly several routes with our own plane. You are allowed +/- 15 kg of luggage per person in a soft suitcase or (weekend) bag during the domestic flight, plus hand luggage.
Safari Jeep
During this safari tour, you will travel around in a 4×4 safari jeep with pop-up roof. This, with four-wheel drive, safari jeep is perfect for taking photos. The vehicles have low emissions, so make less noise. This allows you to get quite close to the wild animals without disturbing or scaring them off.
The safari jeeps are well maintained and have comfortable seats and a cooler for cold water. Our English-speaking driver/guide has extensive knowledge of flora and fauna. He makes sure you get to see the best of the national parks. He will give you as much time as you need to ask questions, take pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
